Admission procedure
Important dates:
Deadline for registration for the central written entrance examination: 1 December 2026. Applicants must submit the “Application Form for the Central Written Examination”.
Central written entrance examination at Barcsi Széchényi Ferenc Gimnázium és Kollégium, 7570 Barcs, Tavasz utca 3.: 23 January 2027, 10:00 a.m. Make-up written examination: 3 February 2027, 2:00 p.m.
Deadline for applications to secondary schools: 22 February 2027.
Scoring system:
Maximum total score: 200 points. Central written examination: 100 points (50 in Mathematics and 50 in Hungarian), accounting for 50%. Prior academic achievement: 100 points, accounting for 50%.
Prior academic achievement is calculated using the arithmetic mean of all subject grades obtained at the end of Grade 7 and at the end of the first semester of Grade 8 in primary school, excluding conduct and diligence grades. The arithmetic mean of all eligible grades from both assessment periods is multiplied by 20, yielding a maximum of 100 points. The result is rounded to two decimal places. There is no oral examination.
Minimum admission requirements by programme: 0001 – at least 130 points (65%); 0002 – at least 100 points (50%); 0003 – at least 100 points (50%). Applicants below the relevant minimum do not meet the school’s admission requirements.
Past central written examination papers and marking schemes are available at oktatas.hu (Public Education → Secondary School Admissions → Central Written Examination Papers and Marking Guides).
Special arrangements
Special procedural rules apply to applicants with special educational needs as defined in Section 4(25) of Act CXC of 2011 on National Public Education, and to applicants with integration, learning or behavioural difficulties as defined in Section 4(3) of the same Act. Special assessment rules are determined in accordance with Section 51 of the Act.
Any request for special arrangements for the central written examination must be submitted in writing to the school. The request and a valid expert assessment must accompany the examination application form at the time of registration. Based on the expert assessment, the head of the institution decides on applicable accommodations, particularly additional time, use of aids familiar to the student, or exemption from parts of the assessment where the legal and expert requirements are met. The decision is issued formally and communicated to the student and parent before the written examination.
Tie-breaking rules
In the event of equal scores, priority is given under Section 40(3) of EMMI Decree 20/2012 to:
- disadvantaged students;
- applicants whose permanent residence, or in its absence their temporary residence, is within the district of the school’s registered seat or educational site;
- applicants whose special circumstances, as defined in the school’s pedagogical programme, justify priority. These include achievements in academic and sports competitions, artistic activities, and connections to the school (e.g. a sibling or ancestor attended the institution).
Boarding accommodation and educational opportunities
Our boarding facility is located within the same building complex as the school. Accommodation is available to admitted students who require it, in renovated four-bed rooms. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the boarding facility.
The aim of the bilingual programme is to develop a high level of proficiency in English, the target language. Students prepare for the advanced-level school-leaving examination in English. If the statutory conditions are met—at least 60% in the advanced-level English school-leaving examination and successful school-leaving examinations in two additional subjects taken in English—the school-leaving certificate is recognised as equivalent to a state-recognised comprehensive C1 language examination certificate. The statutory requirements for bilingual education also include achieving at least CEFR B2 proficiency in the target language at the prescribed rate.
Our range of programmes supports students in developing their individual abilities and talents through advanced subject-specific afternoon classes. We provide opportunities to attain high proficiency in foreign languages and obtain language certificates, while laying a strong foundation for further studies, success in higher education and future employment.
